EtPIC

The East Texas Psychology Internship Consortium (EtPIC) (pronounced "EPIC") is a unified doctoral-level psychology internship training program serving the East Texas region. Operating on a Practitioner-Scholar model, EtPIC pools administrative resources, specialized clinical expertise, and diverse patient populations across two established independent outpatient facilities to offer sequential, cumulative, and graded clinical training.

Our mission is to prepare doctoral trainees for independent professional practice through comprehensive clinical assessment, evidence-based psychotherapy, ethical practice, cultural diversity, and interprofessional collaboration.

Consortium Partner Agencies

EtPIC brings together two independent clinical practices to provide a rich, multi-faceted training environment:

  • Connections Counseling: An independent outpatient mental health facility offering comprehensive psychological evaluations alongside individual, family, and specialized counseling services to diverse populations.

  • Kranz Psychological Services: An independent clinical psychology practice specializing in comprehensive psychological evaluations, individual and group psychotherapy, and specialized clinical consultations.

By combining forces, our consortium offers trainees exposure to varied clinical populations, theoretical orientations, and service delivery formats that no single site could offer on its own.

Program Structure & Specialized Divisions

EtPIC operates under a Single Model Commitment, ensuring a synchronized and standardized training experience across all facilities. Training is divided into specialized core tracks led by dedicated doctoral-level faculty:

  • Counseling & Psychotherapy Training Division: Directed by Dr. Laura Beth Cooper (Connections Counseling), focusing on intervention modalities, individual/family psychotherapy, and clinical consultation.

  • Psychological Assessment & Evaluations Division: Directed by Dr. Sarah Kranz (Kranz Psychological Services), focusing on psychometric testing, diagnostic evaluations, and comprehensive report writing.

Alternating Facility Schedule & Trainee Interaction

To ensure continuous cross-site collaboration, multi-facility exposure, and strong peer support, trainees follow an alternating bi-weekly co-location schedule:

  • Weekly Joint Presence: Trainees gather in person at a single facility every week for joint supervision, case consultations, and didactic seminars.

  • Twice-Monthly at Connections Counseling: Focused on psychotherapy supervision, intervention strategies, and clinical case presentations.

  • Twice-Monthly at Kranz Psychological Services: Focused on assessment supervision, evaluation case consultations, and psychometric interpretation.

Supervision & Didactics

  • Multiple Doctoral Supervisors: Every intern is guaranteed ongoing primary clinical supervision and professional role modeling from at least two licensed doctoral-level psychologists (Dr. Laura Beth Cooper and Dr. Sarah Kranz).

  • Formal Didactic Seminars: Trainees participate in regularly scheduled, face-to-face joint didactics occurring at least monthly, covering advanced clinical topics, ethical standards, and specialized intervention methods.

  • Peer Connection: Structured informal interaction is built into the program through monthly peer lunches, shared electronic communication channels, and scheduled virtual peer support sessions.
